i hav a xbox 360 and a ps3 and i am unable to go online on my xbox when i go to sign up it says you must get a update but when i do it doesnt download .it is the xbox premeum and my ps3 goes online ok

You have to connect an internet cable from the back of the 360 to wherever your getting internet, preferrably a router. The PS3 and the WIi have wireless connection capabilites, while you would have to buy an expensive add on to the 360 for wireless connection.

I've bene thinking of buying an XBox 360 and want to play online. What does it cost for the online access? Do you need to have your internet coax hook up near your Tv? Do you need to sign up for anything special through your service provider? How long does it take to set it up and start playing? Anything else you can tell me about it? Thank you!

The setup is pretty cheap, if you have high speed internet than you are pretty much already done hooking up your 360 to get on live.

The Xbox live silver is free for all but it doesn't allow you to play multi-player on line. The gold package cost $60 bucks a year but there are free trials (You get a 30 day trial with the premium 360) for different periods of time all over the place.

Your internet hook up doesn't "have" to be near your tv. You can A: use a wireless network adapter (cost range from $80-$100) if you have a wireless router. Or you can use a ethernet cable.

As far as your service provider goes. It all depends on how you plan to set up your 360 and your service provider. If you hook your 360 directly to your modem or router, you shouldn't have to do anything at all in most cases.

If you connect your 360 to a switch or something like that. Than you may have to talk with your ISP and get an additional IP address assigned. I have a ethernet switch which doesn't automatically assign IP addy's so I had to call comcast and get them to give me an additional IP address for my account so my 360 could connect. If I didn't do that, the 360 would not be assigned one automatically by comcast and it wouldn't get on the net to go live.

Other than that, I was up and running in about 30 minutes (including networking time). I will attach the link to the Xbox networking walk through and tutorial for you to take a look at it.

Some people are telling me that when you have xbox live you can play people that are using online for the ps3 some people are saying otherwise.

no i doubt this is possible seeing as to they are two different networks ad one you have to pay for and the other is free

My modem is all the way at the other end of my house (from my room) and I don't want to run a cable all the way across my house. So what do I need to connect my Xbox online. Also, if I need to use my modem in the process, does that mean my computer has to be on while I'm playing online?

You need a router and the xbox wireless modem,, and no your laptop does not have to be on.

I want to know if you can pay for membership online with your credit card. Or do you have to manually go to a nearby store and buy the memebrship subscription code yourself? And if there's like a free trial of membership that you can get like on Xbox Live for the 360 where when you join Xbox Live, you get a month free of gold.

all of the memberships require you to enter credit card and email information so that when the 1, 3, or 12+1 subsctiption runs out, microsoft can just send you an email and all you have to do is click yes and it will automatically renew itself. the free month of gold on the 360 is open to anyone. just set up the account and you have the month
