Xbox 360 Component Cable

I was wondering if the component AV cable that came with my xbox 360 can run 1080p.

Yes. Despite what people say, component cables can display 1080p. People will tell you that you need HDMI to display 1080p, but they're wrong. My brother-in-law has a 1080p TV, and we could play Ninja Gaiden Sigma on 1080p using the component cables.

Our TV is 1080i HD and I just purchased an xbox 360. Should I go to the trouble of buying an HDMI cable or just use the component cables? Will there be any noticeable difference? Thanks!

I would jsut use the regular cables, plug them into the HD input on the TV and make sure the swith on the cord is switched to HD mode. I dont notice a big difference with HDMI I wouldnt waste the money.

I have had a Goodmans 32" HDTV for over a month and it has worked fine until recently when playing my 360 the whole screen went purple, green and sometimes red. I have a component cable connected to receive HD and it seems to do it very randomly. Hasnt done it since but am not sure if its a problem with my tv or 360 cable. Has done it a bit when watching tv but only in bottom corner of tv, only when playing 360 does it fill screen. Has anybody had similar problems or know what the fault may be?

This seems really obvious, but make sure they're correctly color coated.

I bought component cables for my xbox 360. I used them for 3 months in 1080p and they worked fine, i recently switched to a new tv that is only 720p. When connected to this tv I only get audio no video, I have tried many different things and only get audio. any help would be greatly depreciated.

Your Xbox is still set to 1080p and the new TV can't handle it

Use the composite red yellow white cable to change the resolution

Just came accross this to reset video settings

Remove any discs from the tray and turn the Xbox off. Then turn it on using a gamepad. As it boots, hold down the Y button, then hit and hold the right trigger. The video settings will reset to default

If this fails take the Xbox round to friend's with a 1080p TV and change it to 720p

im connecting from my xbox 360's component cable to a rgb coupler to a component video to vga cable. i was wondering if this would work and if i should buy these cables.

It will be a complete waste of your money, and anyone selling such cables should be charged with outright criminal fraud. VGA consists of RGB video, in which each color is its own video signal, no modulation. Component, which appears similar to RGB, is only composite video in which the modulated color is carried separately from the baseband video itself. The blue is simply the blue color information with no video at all, the red is also simply the red color information with no video at all, and the green is really black and white video, only becoming the green color when compared to the red and blue demodulated colors.

Fairly complex but bottom line is that VGA and Component are not at all compatible. There are converters, but those are actual electronic devices and cost a lot of money (around $900).
