About the best you can do with the PS2 is 480p (enhanced defenition) via a component cable (red, green ,blue) and at the same time the game itself must support 480p, God of war 2 for example. You will get a pretty good picture this way.

We are looking into getting an LCD/HDTV, but were wondering if there is anything special needed to hook up our regular stuff - Playstation 2, DVD player, etc....or are they just like a regular television?

You might consider getting component cables for the PS2. Don't know what type of DVD player you have, but the upconvert DVD players can take both component and HDMI cables, so you might consider getting those too. Some LCD TVs also accept DVI.

Just buy the TV first and then buy whatever cables you need. Don't get tricked by the salesperson that you need to get HDMI, component, etc. cables right away. By the cables as you need them.

The PS2 can plug into a LCD TV without any additional cables, but if you want to play in 480, you'll need to get the PS2 component cables.

The AV cord has the red and white plug-ins for sound so I get perfect audio but the video cord is yellow (the TV video input is green) so the picture comes out perfect but in black and white. Is there a cord for the PS2 that is compatible with my HDTV or perhaps an adapter?

Green is an input for the Component jacks (Green, blue, white and red). The cable that comes with the PS2 is for A/V jacks (Red, White Yellow). Most HD TV have inputs for both. However, if yours doesn't, you can buy a Component cable for the PS2 at Best Buy and other stores.

We just bought a new TV with tons of places to plug thing in but our playstation and DVD player all have the red white and yellow plugs. There is only one place to plug these in. If we plug the playstation into any of ther other spots, we don't get any color. Is there a conversion kit for this? Thanks!

Well I don't know how come your TV only has 1 R/W/Y plug in. Well anyways, see if your DVD player has a HDMI plug in. If it does, get a HDMI cable ($15-25) and use it for your DVD player. You will experience great picture and audio quality by using those. You can use the one and only R/WY plug in your for your PlayStation then. Also, see if you can connect your DVD player to the TV by using S-video cables if you don't want to spend $25 on a HDMI cable. You will still notice a difference compared to R/W/Y cables.
