PS2 laser replacement...?

I have an early version PS2 (NON-slim) and the laser's gone dead. It's a KHS -400B laser. I want to buy a new laser but I see that there is an "antistatic solder" which would have to be removed before use. Does anyone know how to remove this antistatic solder? Exactly how hard would it be to replace it? Could I use any other laser models other than 400B (for example, 400C or 400R)?

Note: I'm looking for personal experience answers, not links to dead-end guides! I've searched the internet already and haven't found anything too helpful.

um, I already have an xbox. And it's working fine, thank you. I'm talking about my PS2 and would appreciate REAL help!

How much soldering experience do you have? You will have to remove the existing solder and then solder the new laser in place. Be very careful not to overheat the leads.
I have never heard of antistatic solder. There is regular tin-lead solder and silver solder. Look at the specs for the lasers and see what is different from the 400B and C. I believe it is external size difference but not real sure.

After laser replacement, Slim PS2 is not spinning disk? How do I fix it?

A few months back, my Slim PS2 showed a "Disk Could not be read" error. I cleaned/dusted the laser several times, failing to solve the problem. After getting to buying a new laser, I installed it and found out the disk would not spin. The Disk spun before with the 'broken' laser and so I thought something was wrong with the disk hub. I swapped the Disk hub, but the disk still would not spin. I checked the cables to find that they are all plugged in.

I believe that the Laser works but I cannot figure out why the Disk does not spin.

How can I fix this?
Will it be cheaper then just buying a new PS2 or PS3?
The Slim PS2 is a black one, I think an earlier version considering that we bought it when it first came out.

Right now, a New Laser, New Laser mount, and old Disk hub is in the PS2.
The Old Spin hub worked with the old laser but not with the new one.

perhaps the part which spins the disc (sorry, i don't know what it's called) is stuck. Try reopening the PS2 and checking to see if you can spin it with your finger. It could be clogged up with dust. I think this is probably unlikely, but you never know.

Has anyone had experiance with PS2 Laser replacment PS-400Q.?

This is the so say better laser replacement from China. If it is any good where is the best place to buy from as all the places on the net say contact us which sounds odd. It's a V5/6 console serial SCPH-30003 R

That sound like a really good laser replacement, but I would get some solid reviews of the product first. I've never had to replace my PS2 laser, but if you have to that sounds like a good modification. Best of luck!

Replacement lens for PS2 slim?

Hi,
I recently broke my slim PS2's lens/laser, whatever you wanna call it.

I went on ebay and online stores to find a replacement. The replacements say that my ps2 (SCPH-70012) is compatible with the lens, which was KHS-430. I decided to open up my PS2 before buying the lens, and found that it said KHM-430 AAA. I went online and found that the KHM is only shipping from Hongkong, and is a bit more expensive. The vendors tell me that the KHS will work.

My question is: Will it? And what is the difference between KHM and KHS?

At this point, it might be more practical to just go to Wal-Mart and get a new PS2, what with shipping and markup, plus you may never know if it is the right piece, and may end up getting screwed.

I just saw a flyer for Wal-Mart (Canada, sorry if you're elsewhere) that advertised a PS2 slim for $50, you can find them that cheap now.
