I haven't ever played any of the games in the series but I do enjoy rpg games. I don't know if it would matter if I didn't know the entire story line, but it would be really awesome if someone could recommend a ps2 Final Fantasy game that I could start off with. Thanks!! =D
FFX is without a doubt the easiest PS2 Final Fantasy to get into. I remember about an hour in I was hooked to the main character and couldn't stop playing it. The character development in that game is simply phenomenal. Because the plot of FFX is highly character-driven, it made stopping the game very difficult for me. Additionally, the turn based battle system is also very easy to get into (although there is still a good deal of depth to it)
FFX-2 is in every way inferior to FFX. Characters, plot, soundtrack and an overemphasis on mini-games. Well actually, the combat system is rather interesting. But we play FF's for the story more than anything. It can be worth checking out if you want to see what happens to the FFX characters after you leave them.
FFXII is another great game, but it admittedly is harder to get into. The game takes place in more of a steampunk setting with archaic dialect and kingdoms but also advanced technology and widespread use of airships. The story is very interesting but is far more political and more complicated than the one in FFX.
FFXII looks better than FFX does, and the environments created in that game are some of the best looking on the PS2. The defining feature in FFXII is it's real time combat system (which is very interesting) and trades a lot of the openness of FFX for dungeon crawling (which can add a more epic feel to the game). Also FFXII offers you the ability to play with just one character which adds a lot of uniqueness to the game. The biggest fault in FFXII is it has mediocre character development. Even towards the end of the game I wouldn't have cared much if any of the main characters died.
FFXI doesn't count.

For a while, I've been considering getting Final Fantasy XI. I don't want to play it on my computer, so that leaves me with my PS2. But, what all, besides the game, of course, will I need in order to play it? Please help!
In addition to the game, you need a full size PS2 and the hard drive for it (slim wont work because sony didnt make the hard drive compatible with it D: ), and the network adapter of your choice for it.
The ps2 version has the worst graphics for it though :o
and depending on your computer, the computer version can look the best.

Seoul, Korea – Thursday, November 19th, 2009 – NHN Corporation announced today that the open beta phase for its fantasy MMORPG Karos Online will begin on Friday, the 4th of December . The final event of closed beta , running on the 27th and the 28th of November , will allow beta testers to experience high-level content and reserve their characters' names for use in open beta. Especially for the final closed beta event, new characters will come fully-equipped with gear and items to support high-level play, and the rate of experience gain has been dramatically increased so that players can reach a level cap of 44 almost immediately. In addition, the names of characters created during the last closed beta event will be linked to the testers' accounts for use in open beta and launch (the characters themselves will be wiped after the event). "In the previous Karos Online closed beta weekends, players were able to try early levelling and the starter content of the game," said Heejin Jeong, Senior Overseas Sales Manager at NHN Corporation. "The third event offers the opportunity to play as a much more powerful character, and there will be new features available this time that players haven't seen before, including new monsters, weapons and Holy Creatures. This will be the last closed beta event for Karos Online, we think it's going to be a lot of fun and we hope to see a lot of testers return to help us celebrate the end of a very productive closed beta." In Karos Online, players take the role of a hero determined to defeat the curse of darkness falling over the world of Asmara and ascend to ultimate glory by becoming the mythical Karos warrior. Through questing, guild clashes and mass PvP, they enter the fight for domination over the world's vital energy source, Fletta. Fletta provides the basis for the game's unique and complex alternate progression system; alongside traditional leveling within the game, Fletta energy can be used to increase stats, give buffs, buy resources and enchant items. With a strong RPG component, wide range of class skills and fantastic visual combat effects, Karos Online offers a rich player experience and an exciting end-game for guilds, including castle sieges and resource control points. There are a variety of dynamic dungeons to explore, with shifting paths and surprises to challenge players as they progress in level. The economy is well-developed, with mining, fishing and crafting elements, and a consignment system for storage. NHN Corporation (KOSDAQ KOSPI: 035420) was established in 1999 and is currently the leading multi-national internet company in Korea, operating internet search portal and gaming services in Korea, Japan and China. Its products include Naver, Korea’s largest search portal with more than 17 million unique daily visitors, and leading Korean portal Hangame, which brought KRW 366.7 billion (206 million €) in revenue in 2008, a 51% increase versus 2007.
