Playstation 3 80 G

My husband is big into video games, and I'm getting him the playstation 3 for christmas. Which size hard drive should I get for him? (I think it's the hard drive, correct me if I'm wrong!)

Would it be likely that anyone would need more than 40 g?

Get the Playstation 3 that has the largest hard drive which I think is the 60 GB which costs about $600. The system was initially planned to have two HDMI ports, three Ethernet ports and six USB ports, though at E3 2006 this was later reduced to one HDMI port, one ethernet port and four USB ports, presumably to cut costs.[10] Also announced were two configurations of the console, a "60 GB" and "20 GB", for $599/€599 and $499/€499 respectively. The 60 GB would be the only configuration to feature a HDMI port, Wifi and a chrome trim with the logo in silver. It was announced for a global release date, November 11th for Japan and November 17th for North America and Europe.

On October 18, 2007, SCEA announced that the 80 GB PlayStation 3 model would receive an immediate price reduction in North America to $499 (USD/CAD). In addition, the 40 GB model would be released on November 2, 2007 for $399, with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray as a pack-in. (USD/CAD).[

When you buy an 80 G playstation 3 do you get a free game with it?

The new ones that are currently on store shelves do not come with a game.

The older 80 GB was a bundle pack PS3 that either came with Metal Gear Solid 4 or Motorstorm.

I know the going price for a new playstation 3 is about $399.00 for 80 g. However does anyone know where I could get it a little cheaper or with some xtra's for the same price?

I personally like Ubuntu a lot - I would encourage you to try that one.
There's a great site http://psubuntu.com just tackling this topic.

The great advantage of this Ubuntu based distro is that you can tap into all the great resources there already are for Unbuntu.

Obviously there are alternatives too... (wow that's great! I can choose)

40 or 80 g. Is it really worth the 100 dollars. I have noticed that the 80g are starting to get really rare at the stores. I want to go buy one and I'm not sure what the benifits between the two are.

1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.

2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim. Not manufactured anymore.

3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 60-70% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.

4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black, silver and white colors. White and silver versions are on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption, other versions use 90nm). Improved cooling system. It's the latest version. 40GB doesn't support SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc). Has no chrome trim. Added self-cleaning function.

5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 60-70% of PS2 games can be played.
Wi-fi included in all models, except 20GB.

6). There is a new 80GB model coming this Fall. It's the same as 40GB model, but with a larger HDD.

They are all based on Blu-ray. They all play PS1 games. Apart from the differences listed above - they are the same.
