PS3 Parts

Does anyone know how much I can save by buying ps3 parts rather than spending a ridiculous amount at a reatail store? I looked on ebay for a ps3 hardrive and I saw some going for pretty cheap. Is it worth it to go that way?

It's not like a PC. You can't buy separate parts and put them together. And buying a second hand parts isn't a good idea.

my ps3 is the old version 80gb with 4 usb hubs. i tried many hdmi cables on different TVs, and theres neither picture nor sound. so im looking for parts to replace that part. Need help find a place that sells those parts. Thank you.

The only part that can be swapped out with a non-standard PS3 part is the hard drive. Almost any SATA 2.5 inch 5400rpm hard drive will work in the PS3. This means you can upgrade for relatively cheap and at any size you want (unlike the 360 which only comes in a couple of sizes and costs about twice as much as it should).

All other parts have to be from Sony and designed for the PS3. Basically, "building" a PS3 is not possible. It may be possible to salvage parts from one PS3 to use in another, but having experience with that in PS2's (which are a lot simpler) I can tell you it isn't easy and never works like you want. The differences from model to model, and the complexity of the hardware make it very difficult.

Just buy a regular retail PS3 and upgrade the HDD if you feel the need.

I bought an AV cable and it took about 3 days to come, but they said within 5-10 working days. Guess I was lucky.

I was reading about how a strong vacuum can damage the insides of a ps3 wen cleaning dust. However in the manual it says u shud use the vacuum hose but it doesnt state how powerful it shud b. The vacuum i used was a dyson home one

It could damage your PS3.

I find it's best to use a small hand held vacuum, you know the ones you can get to pick up crumbs and things, get a really cheap one that isn't very powerful, and use that, lol.

If you do use a normal vacuum, then don't put the end of the hose close to the vents, keep it at least 2 or 3 inches away:)

I have also found that if you get a book or box that's about the same size as the bottom of your PS3, (if you lie it flat) to put it on, instead of it being directly on the surface of the table or shelf, this helps to stop so much dust from accumulating around the vents:)
