are the graphics better in the new generation and does the new ps3 have better parts in it? Also if my ps3 says Free Space 27GB/55GB how many gb does my ps3 have?

New PS3s don't have SACD playback.

The trim is different. I think the old models used chrome.

New PS3s don't have memory card slots.

New PS3s are more power effiicient. New models use an average of 130-140 watts. Old ones were 190-200. The 200 range was hit with PS2 playback; they required about 10 watts more power or so compared to PS3 games. New PS3s use 65 nm chips and the old had 90 nm chips. New PS3 run quieter, smoother, and doesn't get as hot because of the chips.

The graphics are the exact same for all PS3s.

Also, what real difference does 20GB less space make for the cheaper machine? What are the USB ports used for?

its ready for preorder. the only problem is that it doesnt have is full capability the a 60GB would have eg can't play ps2 games and a few other things

if you want a 60GB hard drive im guessing absolute latest this time next year and absolute earliest would probably be in the January sales for it to become £299.

The USB ports are maily used for media so you can plug in your mp3 player and it will play the songs. I think you can also put a certain webcam for it but that would be for later use when you recieve updates.

What is another way of transferring stuff into a new PS3 hdd without a external hard drive? I dont feel like paying $100 or more for one so is there any other ideas i could do? i have a 1GB memory stick but that would take for ever to transfer the 30 gb stuff i have!

It sounds like you want to transfer stuff from an old PS3 hard drive to a new bigger one. If that is what you are trying to do, note that anything you have paid for on the Playstation Store in the past is saved in your PSN account. So, when you start up the PS3 with the new HDD, you can go to the store and redownload everything you had originally bought for no extra charge. As far as your other saved media not from the Playstation Store, you will have to either use a memory stick or SD Card.

What is the difference between the old and new 80 gig ps3?

The old ones that have 4 usb slots can play most ps2 games and the new ones can't. The old ones are louder than the new ones though and they both can play ps1 games.
