40 PS3

I'm looking forward to buying a PS3 but just aren't sure which one to get. The 40 GB or the 80GB. Could someone tell me the biggest diefference?
So basically the only difference is memory? Would that mean the 80 GB wouldn't need any type of memory card or am I just dead wrong?

actually, there is an 80 gig. it is the size of the hard drive that the ps3 is fitted with. like computers, it determines how much data or in this case, games, that you can "install" or store into it. it doesn't have anything to do whether it can play ps2 games or not. that is usually dependent on ps3's hardware configuration and software updates.

im talking about the regular ps3 40 gb for 400 bucks. im pretty sure it comes with a controller but my friend told me it also comes with a game. I didnt think so.

No it doesnt come with the game, mine came with just the console, the leads to connect it and a wireless controller - not even a demo disc which is a bit shabby considering how much it costs you'd think it would at least come with a demo disc

I have a ps3/40/40 and i need to know what I need to play with all the instruments for rockband. And where I could buy it.

You need to get a USB hub, you can buy them at any local Bestbuy or gaming store, there pretty cheap usually average about $15.

Basically, I wanted to get a ps3, but don't really need the extra memory. I heard the 40 GB isn't backwards compatible with certain games, and would still like to play my ps2 games on it if possible.

Only 80GB is still available but you can't play PS2 games anymore :( Sad but true.

I just bought a 40 gig PS3 yesterday from Best Buy and assumed that all PS3 were backward compatible?

Is their any software and I can purchase to make the 40 Gig PS3 able to play PS2 games? I didn't even know PS3 had a 80 gig version, they never have it in the stores....

No, the 40 gig PS3 is not backwards compatible with PS2 games, however it can play PSone games. There isn't any software that can be purchased and used to make the PS3 backwards compatible with PS2 games.

Furthermore, the 80 gig PS3 is backwards compatible and will be shipping in a bundle pack with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Dual Shock 3 controller on June 12th. for $499.
